Announcing the 2024–’25 Readers & Writers Adventures

Holding steady at Prairie Wildlife.

We’re at it again. Never content to just publish articles about great wingshooting trips, we actually plan them and invite any and all to participate. This year we’ve arranged four world-class Readers & Writers Adventures. The destinations are loaded with birds, offer premier accommodations and provide gourmet meals. And, of course, they’re filled with great guests: like us! If you’re looking for adventure starting in December, consider signing up for one of these great trips.

Kicking things off, from December 12 to 16 we’re making our second trip to Prairie Wildlife, in West Point, Mississippi. Shooting Sportsman Editor in Chief Ralph Stuart will host the trip, and guests will fly into Columbus, Mississippi, before being transported the short 30 minutes to the lodge. This is unlimited bobwhite quail hunting in the fabled Black Prairie region, and the lodge is one of the finest in the South. The cost for this three-day hunt is $6,395 and includes single-occupancy accommodations and everything but gratuities, taxes and the cost of shipping birds home.

Turning the page on 2024, we kick off ’25 with a trip to Wynfield Plantation, in Albany, Georgia, from January 5 to 9. The host for this trip will be SSM Director of Wingshooting Terry Bombeke, and guests will fly into the nearby airport in Albany before being transported to the heart of Georgia’s Quail Belt. This is classic walk-up bobwhite hunting behind hard-charging dogs in pristine habitat of native grasses and timberland. The price of $4,895 includes single-occupancy rooms and everything except gratuities, taxes and the cost of shipping birds home.

Clockwise from upper left: a brace of bobs at Wynfield Plantation; horseback hunting at Pine Hill Plantation; the gunroom at Greystone Castle.

Less than a month later, from February 1 to 5, we head to Texas for a first-class mixed-bag hunt at Greystone Castle. This hunt will be hosted by Terry Bombeke, and guests will fly into the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. We will enjoy walk-up hunting behind dogs for pheasants, Hungarian partridge, chukar and bobwhites, and one afternoon there will be a Continental shoot. In addition, this award-winning wingshooter’s paradise offers unique accommodations (can you say “castle”?) and world-class cuisine. The price of $7,947 includes a single-occupancy room and everything except gratuities, taxes and the cost of shipping birds home.

Rounding out our stellar schedule, we once again will visit crowd-favorite Pine Hill Plantation, in Donalsonville, Georgia. From February 20 to 24, we will do things the old-fashioned way by hunting bobwhites from mule-drawn wagons. The guides, dogs and habitat are second to none, and the quail fly hard and fast and in great numbers. Terry Bombeke will host this bucket-list experience, for which guests fly into Tallahassee, Florida. The price of $6,480 includes single-occupancy accommodations and everything but taxes, gratuities and the cost of shipping birds home.
