The life of a gundog owner includes a seemingly endless set of changing activities and situations. Today might bring a quick trip to the training grounds with a pointer that needs some touch-up work, while tomorrow launches a two-week odyssey chasing sharptails in Montana. This season you're working a single retriever in its prime, but a few years from now you might be juggling a grizzled old-timer and an eager pup. Your midsize pickup serves well on local quail hunts, but gear-intensive waterfowl expeditions require the larger Suburban.

The folks at RuffLand Kennels know the story well, because they live it; so when they design and manufacture products they put a heavy focus on making kennels that are adaptable to all of the possible changes a hunter and dog team might encounter.

It Starts With Thoughtful Design

RuffLand Standard Kennel

At the heart of Ruffland’s philosophy lies a simple premise: Your kennel system should work with you, not against you. Converting from everyday local trips to full expedition setups should be fast and hassle free and result in the efficient use of valuable vehicle space.

Every RuffLand kennel begins with a foundation of rotomolded construction that delivers the perfect balance of strength, weight and flexibility. The one-piece design not only withstands the punishment of countless miles and rough country, but it also incorporates flex zones that absorb impacts to protect your dog. A raised floor keeps your canine companion comfortable while making cleanup a snap. Kennels also include strategic venting, and most are molded to be stackable with compatible StackRight models. From there, customers can get made-to-order systems that include a range of options that include the following.

Standard Performance, Backseat Rider and SlantBack Designs

RuffLand’s flagship design is the Gen 2 performance kennel, which comes in seven sizes and five colors. This design not only offers maximum versatility, but also accommodates the widest range of RuffLand accessories. There is also a Backseat Rider, which is sized to fit on the floor behind the front seat or directly on the back seat, allowing dogs the comfort of riding inside the vehicle. The design is also sized so that two kennels can fit end-to-end across a row of back seats. Another option is to choose a kennel with a SlantBack design, featuring a back that is contoured to allow the unit to snugly fit between the canted second(or third) row of seats in an SUV. With each of these designs offering a degree of flexibility in how it is used—a Backseat Rider can work perfectly in a pickup bed, for example—customers have the opportunity to pick the kennel that suits their needs to a “T.”

Door Options

All RuffLand kennel doors employ a quiet, rattle-free design; swing open and shut both ways; and feature a no-bite grid pattern that practically eliminates damage from chewing. From there a variety of custom options are offered, ranging from a simple single door to three double doors: Front/Back, Front/Right or Front/Left. There's also a door option that accommodates the SlantBack design.

Corner Inserts

Perhaps RuffLand's most ingenious feature is also its most subtle. Every kennel incorporates molded corner insert portals—seemingly simple openings that allow for unlimited customization as they serve as receptacles to accept the mounting hardware for RuffLand's extensive accessory line.

Top-mounted insets accommodate tie-down systems for secure transport while also serving as mounting points for the versatile Easy Rider Top Tray, which can both store gear and serve as a utility table. Side-mounted inserts enable kennel-coupling systems that allow multiple units to be joined horizontally. (Kennels can also be joined vertically using the top corner holes.)

A True Custom Travel System

The many design options are capable of accommodating a huge range of individual needs and preferences. From there accessorizing is the key to completing a true custom travel system. RuffLand's line of kennel-integrated and freestanding accessories is so comprehensive that the list is too large to include, but some of the most popular items are the following.

Cushy Ride Kennel Pad: A waterproof, antimicrobial, shock-absorbing pad.

Double Door Insulated Kennel Cover: An insulated, custom-fit covering in brown or camo.

Water Topper: A nine-gallon tank molded to include a top tub for gear.

Water Hole: A one-gallon water jug with a built-in self-replenishing bowl.

Chow Box: A travel-ready food-storage container with airtight seals to ensure freshness.

Kennel Gear Dog Bowl System: An attachable, mess-free 20-ounce food/water bowl.

Divide & Conquer Kennel Divider: An adjustable, air-vented unit that divides a kennel into two compartments.

Between the thoughtful design options and multitude of accessories, a Ruffland Kennels system can be customized to fit whatever your needs are. And don't worry if your situation changes to something completely different, as the system was built to adapt to the ever-changing needs of wingshooters and their four-footed partners.
