Five Purdey Shotguns

Primos’ Purdeys to be Auctioned

Most gun nuts are familiar with the immutable stations on the collecting path: fascination, accumulation, obsession and ultimately the realization that you can't take it with you. Of these perhaps the last is the trickiest. How, as your life winds down, do you responsibly dispose of your treasures? One man may have found the ideal solution.

Will Primos, the founder of game-call-and-hunting-products manufacturer Primos Hunting and creator of videos, DVDs and the television series Primos’ Truth About Hunting, is selling a unique set of five Purdey hammer ejector huns at auction to raise money and awareness for conservation groups. The consecutively numbered set in 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge as well as .410 will go under the hammer at Rock Island Auction Company's December 5 to 7 sale. The beneficiaries will be the Congressional Sportmen's Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Pheasants/Quail Forever. RIAC thinks sufficiently of the idea that the auction house has agreed to waive its normal commission.

Last year in cooperation with these organizations Primos launched the “Truth About Conservation” public-awareness campaign and firearms auction promoting the need for wildlife habitat management and to raise funding for conservation.

According to Bob St. Pierre, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever: “It's an honor for Will Primos to include Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever in this incredibly generous gift. Likewise, we're thrilled to be teaming up with our partners in conservation at CSF, DU, NWTF and RMEG to stretch Will's contribution as far as possible for our shared habitat missions. From bobwites to bluebills and bugling elk to gobbling turkeys, the funds generated by these Purdey shotguns are going to leave a lasting impact on the landscape for the wildlife we all cherish.”

Primos commissioned the first gun—the 16-gauge—in 2012, and the set is the only five-bore hammergun set that Purdey has ever produced and ever will produce. The guns were engraved by Paul Chung and Bradley Tallett, and each features English scroll and a unique game scene on the bottom. Each gun is also threaded for Teague chokes and comes with an oak-and-leather takedown case with a full complement of accoutrements.

The proceeds of the sale will help fund worthwhile organizations, but perhaps more significantly, the buzz generated will bring awareness to the seminal role sportsmen play in conservation.
