Longthorne Gunmakers, the English firm famous for its patented barrel technology, recently complemented its collection of 12-, 16- and 20-bore over/under shotguns with a 28-bore. It has been a full decade since Longthorne showed its singular shotgun with both barrels machined from a solid billet of special Swedish steel. In that time the company has introduced several new models, including a side-by-side.

“It gave us great pleasure to hand over our very first 28-bore to a very happy client,” said Marketing Director Elaine Stewart. “This first was a Celtic design, with 30-inch barrels and three-quarters, three-quarters fixed chokes and weighed just six pounds. This gauge has been a long time coming. New models always take time to perfect, but we are proud of the end result. Another landmark in the history of Longthorne.” She continued: “The Celtic is our own in-house design, and we can put either a rose, dragon, thistle or shamrock on the toplever, depending on where the customer has ties.”

The first 28 was delivered in June, and we asked the customer if he was pleased. “Well worth the wait,” he said. “I received the first 28-bore ‘hot off the press.’ It’s fantastic. I can’t stop looking at the gun. A big thank you to all at Longthorne in producing such a beautiful gun.”

The 28-bore completes Longthorne’s flight of over/unders in popular gauges. We hope it takes off.
