What’s New for Waterfowlers

by The Editors

From our November/December 2025 Issue

Few wingshooters need more gear than waterfowlers. In addition to rugged guns and loads, fowlers often require special clothing for wet and gnarly conditions, tools for drawing birds into range, and “creature comforts” for long waits in meager hides. The following items may make your time afield more enjoyable and productive.

FIRST LITE FORGE WADERS

Fowlers are notoriously tough on gear, so First Lite built its Forge Waders to withstand the harshest treatment and conditions. Made with 4.5-layer nylon waterproof body fabric, the waders have a one-piece design and minimal seams for fewer possible failure points. Other features include 14" LaCrosse Alpha Wader Boots with 1,000 grams of PrimaLoft Gold insulation, internally bonded neoprene knee pads and mapped OrthoLite foam through the seat. There is a YKK Aquaseal front zipper, heavy-duty elastic suspenders, a wading belt, zippered chest pockets with external MOLLE platforms for attachments, and D-rings on the chest and waist.

Sizes: S through 3XL

TOM BECKBE x DU STEWARD JACKET

Tom Beckbe recently collaborated with Ducks Unlimited to create a collection of waterfowling gear, with a portion of the proceeds going to conservation efforts. The Steward Jacket is one of the principal pieces—made of 8.25 waxed shelter cloth and available exclusively in Wetlands Green (for its application across all four of North America’s flyways) with an Alabama red-clay lining. The jacket has oversized handwarmer pockets lined with moleskin and front bellows pockets for shells and other gear. There is a brass two-way zipper with storm flap, an adjustable hem and a corduroy-lined collar with storm latch. Gusseted underarms and a bi-swing back offer freedom of movement.

Sizes: Small through XXL
Price: $495

MOJO BIG BLADE

What goes around comes around, and MOJO’s Big Blade is a modern take on the original “Goal Post Decoy’—an oversized blade spinning inside a metal U-frame that created a flash ducks couldn’t resist. The Big Blade incorporates a new motor, updated electronics and sturdy bearings, making it faster, smoother and quieter. The design is also more user-friendly, thanks to a quick-connect blade, a hinged bearing housing for easy removal, and single plug-in wiring. The Big Blade comes with an 8Ah lithium-ion battery that runs up to seven hours on a single charge; a remote for operating continuous, intermittent and off modes; and a two-piece 48" stake.

Weight: 4 pounds
Price: $220

BOYT KOR PANELS - 51"

For traveling waterfowlers, few things are more important than making sure their guns arrive safely. Boyt has come up with a unique solution using KOR Panels, which incorporate Vacuum Rigidizing Structure technology to basically “shrink-wrap” guns inside protective layers. Guns are placed between the panels, which contain a lightweight, sustainable fill, and then a proprietary pump is used to remove the air, encapsulating the guns in a rigid casing. KOR Panels offer superior impact and vibration resistance and are infinitely customizable, conforming to the shapes and size of any item. The 51“ panels fit inside Boyt’s hard-sided H51 cases. (There are also 41" panels that fit in H41 cases.)

Dimensions: 51" (l) x 15" (w) x 4" (d)
Weight: 7.1 pounds.
Price: $329

Other features include integral foam knee pads, reinforced paneling across the seat and articulated knees, waist-high side zippers for easy on/off, and adjustable shoulder straps with low-mounted buckles for an unrestricted gun mount. There is also a mud-resistant front/fly zipper, fleece-lined handwarmer pockets, zippered chest pockets, magnetic-closure cargo pockets, an adjustable waist cinch and D-loop attachment points.
