The Preserve, in Richmond, Rhode Island, is something of a unicorn. In the country’s most densely populated region—the Northeast—the luxury resort is unique. The 3,500-acre, amenity-rich sporting club is designed around outdoor pursuits, from sporting clays to driven-bird shoots to the country’s longest indoor automated shooting range. At the heart of the development is the newly expanded Sporting Shoppe, arguably New England’s largest premium hunting store.

Reopened in December 2024, The Sporting Shoppe expansion took 13 months to complete and increased retail space to 28,000 square feet. In addition to the shop, Preserve owner Paul Mihailides says that there are nearly 100,000 square feet in warehouse space to support a one-stop shopping experience for adventurers.

According to Mihailides: “We have more than 30,000 unique products here and $30 million in inventory. We have more than 200 visitors a day and have been averaging $1 million in sales per month since we opened.”

The Sporting Shoppe is a premium dealer for Beretta, Blaser, John Rigby & Co., Caesar Guerini, James Purdey & Son and FAMARS (which Mihailides owns), and there are a number of previously owned guns on offer. In addition, the store stocks clothing brands such as Dubarry, Barbour, Orvis, Sitka and Tom Beckbe; and there are dedicated sections for freshwater and saltwater fishing, camping and boating.
