The 25th Anniversary Vintage Gunners Cup

by Tom Sternal

Hard to believe, but this year’s Vintage Gunners Cup World Side-by-Side Championship and Exhibition will be the 25th anniversary of the event. Taking place from September 7 to 9 at Warrington Sporting Clays, in Wellsville, Pennsylvania, the shoot is being hosted for the first time by Delaney & Sons. There will be 50-target shotgun side events (for hammerless and hammerguns, American classics and guns by any maker, and all bores from 10 through .410) on Thursday and Friday followed by the 80-target main event on Saturday. There will be additional events, including women’s competitions, as well as side games, including Helice, long bird, wobble trap, 5 Stand and more.

“The Vintage Gunners started the Cup as a way to bring like-minded shooters together for a friendly competition,” said Ray McNaughton, the organization’s new president. “It provides an annual opportunity to share our common experiences and gives those interested in the sport a great place to learn what it’s all about.”

A major draw of the event is the exhibition, and at press time sponsors and exhibitors included Vintage Doubles, Robin Hollow Outfitters, Steve Barnett Fine Guns, Westley Richards, John Dickson & Son, Best Wingshooting, Gournet Engraving, Liberati Books, Hound & Hare, Stephen Cobb, Poulin’s Antiques & Auctions, Morphy Auctions, Country Pursuits & Outfitters, Braeval, Shenk Ammunition, Woodcock Hill, Thomas Bland & Sons, MacNab Fine Firearms and John Allgood Sporting Arms.

Host Delaney & Sons, an organizer of worldwide shooting trips, is proud to advance the event. According to Liz Delaney, who owns Delaney & Sons with her husband, Sean, “Having been an exhibitor the past six years, we’ve enjoyed getting to know other vintage gunners as well as a number of gun dealers and gunmakers. We are excited to infuse fresh energy into an event with so much history. It brings us together in a unique way!”

  1. says: Paul Tuttle

Hello, my name is Paul Tuttle and I have an old Market Duck Hunter 4 gauge punt gun that I am trying to research some information on. I have spoke to a gentleman (Bill Graham) at the Leland Little Auction House and he told me that I needed to speak with John Allgood who would be the MAN to help me with my research on this 4 Gauge.
