When you travel to hunt, the places you stay can run the gamut. From remote camps to fancy lodges, accommodations and amenities can range from spartan to opulent—requiring you to pack specifically for your destination. In anticipation of your next hunt far from home, here is some “stay-away” gear that will help you arrive prepared.

The 14” boot is seamless for 100% waterproof protection and has a fast-drying acrylic lining and a lug sole that provides grip and sheds mud and snow. It has been tested in temperatures from 50°F to -40°F.

Fashioned after the sweaters worn in WWII by the British SAS (Special Air Service), L.L. Bean’s Commando Full-Zip Sweater is not only comfortable and warm, but also stylish. The sweater is made of 21-ounce, itch-free merino lambswool with reinforced cotton shoulder and elbow patches. The slim cut through the chest, sleeve and waist as well as the form fit make the sweater great for layering over. The full-zip front allows for easy on-off and venting in the field.

Dometic CFX3 Series Electric Coolers keep your food and drinks at a consistent temperature—no ice required. With lightweight thermoformed plastic shells, structural insulation and compressors powered by AC, DC or DC solar, these coolers can maintain temperatures from 68°F to -7°F using less power than a 60W light bulb. Just plug the cooler into the DC outlet in your truck or SUV—or into an external battery—and go remote. (A three-stage dynamic battery-protection system prevents dead vehicle batteries.) The coolers have aluminum-alloy carry handles, high-resolution color displays, removable baskets, interior LED lights and USB ports. There’s even a CFX3 app that allows for controlling the temperature and monitoring performance on a smartphone. Seven sizes—two with independent cooling zones and one with an ice maker—are available, and because the coolers don’t use ice, they will hold twice as much as conventional coolers of the same size. Of course, you can always opt to bring ice—and it will stay frozen as long as you’d like.

Sizes: 25 Liter, 36 L, 46 L, 53 L, 75 L, 94 L, 99 L (shown).

For warming up after a cold day afield or celebrating your dog’s stellar performance—or any reason really—Pendleton Whisky Midnight has a complex flavor and exceptionally smooth finish. The Midnight variety (others include Pendleton Whisky, Pendleton 1910 and Pendleton Directors’ Reserve) is a blended Canadian whisky, with a portion of the blend aged for more than six years in American brandy barrels. The 90-proof (45% ABV) whisky has notes of leather and warm spices and is best enjoyed neat. Cheers!
