“I have been fortunate to have hunted at some really great wingshooting lodges, and all of them have been great in their own way. Whenever someone asks me which place is the best, my immediate answer is Fishing Creek Farms in Georgia.
“One thing that always strikes me about the place is how all of the facilities are immaculately kept. From the walkways between buildings, to the 5 Stand, to the pavilions, everything is extremely clean and well maintained, which shows how committed the lodge is to even the small details. And every time I return, they seem to have found a way to improve upon perfection!
“The group of friends that I hunt with loves to shoot a lot of hard-flying birds, and Fishing Creek always delivers. There’s more to hunting than just how many birds are harvested, however, and we really appreciate the great dogwork and the fun and charismatic guides who are the norm on every hunt. And the guides don’t just take care of us in the field; they also clean our guns at the end of the day and even make a little extra time to join us for cocktails after the hunt.
“The lodging and dining at Fishing Creek are nothing short of five star. Every breakfast, lunch and dinner is a gourmet meal, and the accommodations (which are spacious and luxurious) are wingshooting’s equivalent to the Ritz-Carlton. This includes being treated like royalty by the hospitality staff, which always goes the extra mile in catering to the specific needs of each guest.
“Although all of the aforementioned aspects are wonderful, the thing that impresses me the most is how an operation that is so elegant and luxurious can also have such a casual atmosphere. My friends and I are always made to feel like family and are encouraged to make ourselves as comfortable as we would if we owned the place. This makes for an intimate and ‘non-commercial’ experience that I have yet to see replicated anywhere. It’s also the reason why Fishing Creek Farms is always my favorite trip of the year!”
