This is a photo of Fergus, my field bred English Cocker Spaniel, on public land in southern Minnesota, near Northfield. This is his first season hunting alone since my other ECS, Annie Mae, passed away in September. Fergus flushed this rooster from deep cover and retrieved it from far from where I thought the bird fell. He barreled into deep brush and cockleburs and came out with the bird, both bloodied and excited.
Fergus is really showing his true measure as a hunter of his own this season! With only a few weeks left in the season, he's ready and looking more.
