Simulated Driven Shooting
Simulated driven shooting is a fun way to get a taste of the real thing or to warm up for the season.
Chris Batha, Shooting Sportsman’s Shooting Editor, has more than 30 years' experience coaching, wingshooting and in competing in clay shooting. He has written extensively on all aspects of bird hunting, clay shooting and shotguns. In addition to being a member of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers and serving as the National Director of The British Clay Pigeon Shooting Association, Batha conducts shooting schools in the US, Great Britain and Europe each year. Although these schools take up a considerable amount of time, he continues to enjoy competitive shooting whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Shooting trap is likely the most popular clay-target sport in the US, though so much of it is shot casually that participation would be hard to measure. Trap is the original clay-target sport and the most ubiquitous; it is also the easiest and least expensive to set up, because it requires only one trap and a small piece of land.
It takes experience and practice—not only to load the guns but also to shoot well by fully utilizing the skills of the loader.
Competitive live-pigeon shoots in the US may be more common than you think, but they are private events by invitation-only because the sport is controversial.
