Go behind the scenes at a world-class wingshooting lodge near the heart of Michigan.
The Shooting Sportsman Endorsed Lodge program scored an exclusive “behind the scenes” interview with the operations manager of Meemo’s Farm, a world-class wingshooting lodge near the heart of Michigan. Mark Evans was happy to answer a few questions about this sportsman’s paradise . . . .
How long have you been at Meemo's Farm, and what compelled you to get involved with the lodge?
I have been here since the inception. I opened the business on May 1, 2015. My business partner had 500 acres of land that he used for only two months of the year. It sat dormant for the other 10 months. I felt it was too nice of a property to sit idle, so I convinced him to open it up to the public and expand. We now have over 1,700 acres and multiple lodging, shooting and wingshooting options.
What’s a typical day of hunting like at Meemo's Farm?
Breakfast at 8 AM, out in the field by 9 AM. I love to hunt a mixed bag, particularly a quail-pheasant combination, or later in the season a chukar-pheasant mix. Back for lunch at midday, and then a choice between an afternoon round on our amazing sporting clays course or hunting a different field. We encourage clients to bring and use their own dogs, or we can use one of ours no problem.
What aspects of your operation seem to impress guests the most?
I think it's the overall experience, from the lodging to the shooting facilities, fields and bird cover to our "'Yes,' now ask the question" approach to business.
What is your favorite item on the dinner menu?
Rib eye, for sure. We rotate and change our menu seasonally, and I love the honey-baked pheasant breast as well.
What part of the job do you find the most gratifying?
Having an idea come to fruition and seeing it work. The driving factor is to create an outdoor experience that brings joy and happiness to all our valued guests. That's the most gratifying by a country mile; seeing their appreciation of what we have done is very rewarding.
What has you the most excited about the coming season?
It's simple: the chance to do it all over again and welcome new clients to the Meemo's experience as well as reacquainting with old friends. Visit us once, and you become part of the greater Meemo’s Family and are treated as such.
