From our November/December 2025 Issue

Founded in 2020 by Terry Wilson and Nancy Anisfield, the Track2Wing Project provides Trackchair all-terrain wheelchairs to bird hunters and outdoorspeople with mobility challenges. The initiative is focused specifically on those involved with sporting dogs—whether actively hunting and training or hoping to return to it. That connection to gundogs is central to every grant awarded.

The idea took shape after Wilson and Anisfield saw a Trackchari at Pheasant Fest more than a decade ago. Not long after, while hunting in Maine, a friend told the couple about a gentleman who, following a logging accident years earlier that had left him paraplegic, could no longer move through grouse and woodcock coverts. The friend had tried to work dogs and flush birds within range of the man but with limited success. That story along with others about dog handlers sidelined by injury or disability led to the creation of Track2Wing as a self-funded, independent LLC.

Since its founding, the project has awarded 53 Trackchairs to recipients across the US and Canada. Many of the recipients have been amateur dog trainers, former guides and even young handlers whose families have run hunting kennels or who have participated in youth hunts. Applicants must demonstrate a passion for hunting with dogs and submit a completed application, photo and two letters of recommendation. Financial and medical documentation may also be requested. A volunteer advisory committee reviews applications each spring, with decisions announced by the end of April.

Recipients are connected with a Trackchair dealer to customize and order their chairs. Track2Wing covers the cost of the chairs, accessories, trailers and delivery. Recipients own their chairs outright.

Although Terry Wilson, a beloved member of the upland and hunting dog community, passed away recently, Nancy Anisfield confirmed that the program will continue. Applications for next year’s program will be accepted from January 1 to March 31, 2026.
