Quail Hunting at Rio Piedra Plantation

Gone Quail Hunting at Rio Piedra Plantation

by Shooting Sportsman Endorsed Lodge Program

Looking for classic Southern longleaf-pine habitat, abundant coveys and well-trained dogs? Rio Piedra Plantation, in Camilla, Georgia, offers sportsmen an escape from everyday life to a place of timeless quail hunting traditions. Here’s what’s in store if you’re planning a visit . . . .

Quick Facts
  1. The business has been owned and operated by the Atchison family since 2000.
  2. The bobwhite quail is king at Rio Piedra Plantation.
  3. The lodge welcomes hunting parties ranging from 2 to 34.
Did You Know?

To provide best-of-the-best hunting, Rio Piedra partners with more than 30 guides—each of whom has a lifetime of experience in the Plantation Belt region. To further encourage the bond between guide and dog, the lodge provides each guide with two English cockers of his own. In the lodge’s kennels, Rio Piedra keeps 110 pointing and flushing breeds—predominantly pointers.

For two generations, the Atchisons have continued expanding and maintaining their hunting grounds. The current 6,000 acres of pine and wiregrass forest offer enough space that a guest could roam the property for two weeks and not hunt the same area twice.

When the Atchison family acquired the property, in 2000, the plantation featured just eight bedrooms and a single dining and living area. Since then, the entire facility has been remodeled and expanded. The sprawling main lodge and surrounding cabins now offer a combined 25,000 square feet of living space. The facility includes several dining rooms, living rooms and outdoor spaces, giving guests plenty of opportunities to relax in their preferred settings.
