The Explora Discovers Print

The Explora Discovers PrintBy Tom Sternal

Quality is an overstated, overused notion. Yet it is the word that immediately comes to mind when considering the UK’s Westley Richards & Co. Every dimension of the 200-year-old, Birmingham-based gunmaker denotes superlative quality. The firm’s guns are as legendary as they are original, and the accessories are among the finest ever made. Never complacent, Westley Richards has doubled down on its commitment to world-class craftsmanship by producing arguably the industry’s finest gun photography and writing in its online blog, The Explora, which launched in July 2013.

Now comprising more than 750 posts, The Explora is a singular documentary not only on Westley Richards guns but also hunting and shooting in general. Initially the voice was that of Simon Clode, former Chairman & Managing Director of Westley Richards, but when he passed away in 2016, the mantle was assumed by current Managing Director Anthony Alborough-Tregear.

Westley Richards now is producing a print edition of The Explora. The 180-page journal contains photo essays from the factory as well as detailed articles about shotguns, rifles, craftsmen and field pursuits. As one would expect, the journal is beautifully designed and luxurious, with high-quality paper and a laminated and gold-foil-embossed cover.

It is available in a limited number at a price of $50. For more information, visit westleyrichards.com
