Kids & Clays

For more than 40 years Ronald McDonald Houses have been providing a “home away from home” for families and their critically ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. What many shotgunners and clays shooters may not realize is that there are many ways to support this charitable mission through their favorite shooting sports.

From its beginnings 20 years ago with the first sporting clays event to benefit the Chicago Ronald McDonald House, the Kids & Clays Foundation has sprouted and grown. In 2017 Kids & Clays raised more than $1.7 million for Ronald McDonald Houses around the country, with most of that revenue coming from 20 sporting clays events. This past year about 3,600 shooters took part—an 8 percent increase from 2016. Including sponsorships and other support, the Kids & Clays Foundation has raised almost $18 million to support ill children and their families.

Kids & ClaysThis year Kids & Clays will host 23 sporting clays, trap and skeet events, each organized by the respective area’s Ronald McDonald House Charity. Kids & Clays also will be promoting its mission at 10 additional shooting events, including the top event in each of the three major clays disciplines. It is the “charity of choice” for the sanctioning bodies of each discipline plus the Scholastic Clay Target Program. Corporate sponsors include a “Who’s Who” of the shooting-sports world.

What can you do to help? First, you can gather a squad to shoot a Kids & Clays event near you. (They also usually offer raffles and auctions as part of each event.) You can host a Kids & Clays Lewis Class side event at your own club with the group’s assistance or donate as part of the Kids & Clays annual national sweepstakes. You even can donate a shotgun, with the proceeds to benefit the Kids & Clays Foundation.
