A new partnership between Georgia’s Barnsley Resort and John Burrell’s High Adventure Company has resulted in luxury accommodations on the same site as premier quail hunting and sporting clays shooting.

The High Adventure Shooting Grounds at Barnsley Resort is an elite sporting lodge just 60 miles north of Atlanta. Burrell, a trained wildlife biologist who manages high-end sporting lodges around the world, worked with General Manager Shawn Jervis and Shooting Grounds Manager BJ Moore to improve an existing hunting and shooting operation to match what, in Burrell’s opinion, is an undiscovered gem of a property.

Barnsley is located on an 1840s estate covering about 3,000 acres and includes a 55-bedroom inn, cottages, a golf course, a spa and fine-dining options. Sporting upgrades included nearly doubling the huntable acreage and creating a posh outdoor living space. Promatic traps were added to two sporting clays courses and a 5 Stand setup. Burrell and Moore are continuing a controlled-burn program and dialing in the overall gamebird-management plan with supplemental-feeding and predator-control programs.

Package opportunities have been added for individuals, groups and corporations that include amenities on site and access to fish exclusive north Georgia trout waters. According to Burrell: “When you have what we have from a habitat perspective sitting next to a world-class resort, it’s setting up to be a perfect storm. When the Atlanta market realizes what’s here, it’s going to snowball into something huge.”
