Double-Dog Dare Ya

A Rare Gold Engraving Pattern

Among the many exceptionally collectible A.H. Fox guns going under the gavel this week at James D. Julia: one of three 20-bore "FE" Grade guns from the company's Philadelphia heyday.

As detailed in the video and the auction catalog, this gun, from the estate collection of Dana Tauber, is "one of the finest small-bore Fox’s extant," with only six FE Grade guns made overall and a rare "double dog" gold engraving pattern.

If you have to ask, it is estimated to sell for $150,000 to $225,000.

  • Fox 20 gauge doubles were such great bird guns. My late father in law introduced me to them. We killed a lot of Texas quail with them in our years of hunting together.
