Moonshine,

It just gives me that much more of a reason, to never go into Dick's Sporting Goods ever again.  I know there are a lot of other sportsman who think the same way.

You could look at it that way...or you could look at it as a retailer looking at part of their offerings that isn't making them as much money as other things they sell.

I've been in  Dick's about three times in my life...I realized that their selection of guns held zero interest to me,their ammo was the typical too-fast/too heavy a load, their fishing section was generic and mid range (and that's a charitable assessment) and that they had nothing to offer me.

Generic, in fact, describes what they sell, across the board, IMO.

But they made all those choices because that's what sells in the places they have their stores.  I was never going to be their target customer, and it made no financial sense for them to try to cultivate me.

I can't get upset at a company for making a business decision.  Makes no sense to tie up floor space with low margin product.

Just found out this morning that Tim Hortons raised the cost of their large coffee to $2.25.....which concerns me more than any Dicks.

You might want to rephrase that... 😉

Been in a Dick's once, bought nothing.  Have called them a few times to see if they had what I was looking for, no success.  Far as I'm concerned, they don't exist.

Actually I need to go by and see if they have any 16 gauge shells at a very good price.

Be nice to buy stuff they lose money on.

then ask them about AR Ammo, just to see their reaction.

Gentlemen,

Dicks has always been a questionable business when it comes to the shooting sportsman needs.  It does not surprise me that they folded to the gun control agenda.   Just for this reason alone I probably will never enter their store again, I do like the OldCol2's thought about buy their ammo stock as cheap as possible however.  I figure in another 5 years they will go the way of Gander Mountain.

Who says they did?  I think you're confusing a business decision (their customer base doesn't buy guns and they can make more money in that space selling other stuff) with a political agenda.

Gander went Tango Uniform because:

  1. They tried to expand to fast, and
  2. They misjudged their customer base.

...seems like Dicks is avoiding the 2nd by making a good business decision, and as far as I'm aware, their not trying to expand.

I would expect to see them in bankruptcy court in a couple of years.

Gentlemen,

Dicks made this supposid business decision right after a major shooting, it looks very questionable IMO.  Looks  like they buckled to the gun control movement.  As an NRA member and member of the NRA Speakers Bureau, I have seen this all before.  I do not need to support a business that is managed in this manner.

Never heard of Dicks.??????  Make all of my guns purchase from locally owned gun shops and of course CMP...  Astonishes me the cost of M1 Garands and 03's.   In 1970 the cost was around 30 bucks, now quality is over $1,000.00

Depends on what they focus their marketing on.  If they focus on their real market (urban "sporting goods"), they'll be fine.  If not, you may be right.

"Looks" sounds a lot like "feels".

When it comes to $$$, I'm not much for "feelings".

When I see proof the company "buckled to the gun control movement." I'll be interested.  Until then it's just agenda driven static and noise.  You've clearly got a conservative political agenda, so your posts go in the circular file for reliability, as would anyone supporting an opposing agenda.

When it comes to business, objectivity rules.  Sorry.
