RGS Video Winner

You may have noticed, as we have, that the fly-fishing video has become an exceptional art form—one capable of transporting you to the best waters and highlighting the best moments with skill, sensitivity and humor that really brings fishing to the screen in an entertaining way.

Wingshooting videos . . . not so much. We’ve found some great professional work in the past few years, most often commissioned by lodges and outfitters, but little in the way of well-done amateur footage. So we’re always on the lookout for online videos about anything and all things bird hunting.

In February we brought word of a video contest organized by the Ruffed Grouse Society, and now we bring you the winning entry. Admittedly not high art, but we have to start somewhere. Bird hunting must be much harder to film than fishing . . . .

From the winner, Clayton Rider: “I'm from White County, Georgia, and for as long as I can remember my father and grandfather have always taken one week out of the year, usually sometime in October, to go up North and hunt grouse and woodcock. This past year was my very first journey to the Northwoods. Nestled in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, we spent the first week of October hunting grouse and woodcock with our five German Shorthaired Pointers. The video is a collection of pictures and videos that I took on the trip. It was without a doubt the most memorable trip I have ever experienced. I hope you enjoy!”

You can’t go wrong with a Jerry Douglas dobro soundtrack, Clayton!
