Julia’s Sporting & Collector’s Auction

James D. Julia’s fall auction will, for the first time, offer a sale day for shooters, collectors and gun nuts of more “modest” budgets. There are hundreds of shotguns offered—including classics by Browning, Parker, Fox, L.C. Smith, Winchester and Remington—with varying combinations of nearly new, high-condition, rare and prized “shooters.”

The auction is October 5 to 7 in Fairfield, Maine, with preview days October 2 to 4. The last two days will feature thousands of lots befitting Julia’s title “Extraordinary Firearms,” while the first day will have 736 lots (at last count) in the inaugural “Sporting & Collector’s Auction” of guns typically in the $2,000-to-$8,000 range.

According to a Julia’s press release: “There has been a significant amount of requests, from buyers and sellers alike, to incorporate moderate priced firearms within our auctions. Now, beginning with our October 5th, 2015 sale, Julia’s will feature a special session to offer moderate priced firearms. That session . . . will feature quality, collectible, moderate priced firearms.”

The A.H. Fox XE Grade shown here is representative of many of the guns in the sale: uncommon, high-grade, fine-condition guns that would make nice additions to a collection or serve well in the field. With a pre-sale estimate of $6,000 to $10,000, it is not inexpensive, though it is a relative bargain compared to the many London guns or Italian Fabbris on offer in the final two days of the auction.
